Paper Title - Independent Ireland in Comparative Perspective

Kevin Hjortshøj O’Rourke is the Chichele Professor of Economic History at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of All Souls College. He is also the Research Director of the Centre for Economic Policy Research, Europe’s most prestigious academic research network. He was previously Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin, a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at University College Dublin, where he is currently a Visiting Professor, and an Assistant Professor at Columbia University, New York. He has also taught at Sciences Po, Paris.

Kevin received his PhD in economics at Harvard in 1989, having taken his undergraduate degree in Trinity College Dublin. He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and a Fellow of the British Academy. He was the first Irish-based researcher to receive a European Research Council Advanced Investigator Award. He has served in the past as President of the European Historical Economics Society, and as Vice-President of the Economic Historical Association. He is currently serving, inter alia, as a Senior Editor of Economical Policy, as a Trustee of the Cliometric Society, and as a Council Member of the Royal Economic Society.

Kevin has worked extensively on the history of the international economy. Among his publications are: the award-winning Globalisation and History (co-authored with Jeffery Williamson); Power and Plenty: Trade War, and the World Economy in the Second Millennium (co-authored with Ronald Findlay); and the two-volume Cambridge Economic History of Modern Europe (co-edited with Stephen Broadberry).
